How does the Writing Roadmap work?
The Writing Roadmap® helps you explore and define the significant beats that drive your story’s engine. Travel down the entire Writing Roadmap, opening one Brainstorm Board at a time (in any order!), filling in MapPoint® ideas as you go. Before you know it, you’ll have a detailed story map to guide your story-writing journey.
Think of the Writing Roadmap as less of a “script template” and more of a “story guide.” You don’t need to count pages and add/cut things to hit some magic page count. But you DO need structure to ensure you have a Story, not a Slice of Life. So the Writing Roadmap is not about adhering to a strict formula but, instead, is more about ensuring you’ve thought about your story MapPoints enough to get you from Point 1 (Opening Scene) to Point 16 (Final Image).
Right now, our Writing Roadmap is designed explicitly for feature screenplays. But you can also use it to create a basic novel writing roadmap or a TV pilot roadmap (because many of the beats can be used for them and when you roadmap screenplays).
